Facts and Figures
Plastic is a major contributor to the waste issue in the printing industry, a new study published analyzed that with the advent of plastic and its mass distribution and production just six decades ago has accelerated the growing 8.3 billion metric tons of unrecycled plastic waste. According to the study, if this trend continues by 2050, there will 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfills (National Geographic, 2020).
The problem with plastic is that a large majority of it isn’t biodegradable unlike many other products. The printing industry is working tirelessly to reduce the impact of plastic pollution on the environment; however, other companies and printing segments must collectively work together to limit the distribution of nonbiodegradable items. As a result of the current state of the environment, plastic remains as one of the greatest threats to the environment and the printing industry is partly to blame.
