Paper and Sustainability

Sustainability remains as a vital concern for the printing industry. According to Levenson and Parson (2018), life cycle studies demonstrates that paper manufacturing is the biggest contributor to the life cycle of print products. It is evident that paper manufacturing uses visible natural resources, however there is a demand from consumers for companies to produce these paper products in a sustainable manner. There are many misconceptions about the discussion regarding paper sustainability in the graphic communications industry.

Recyclability

Recyclability is a significant element regarding the lifecycle of paper. Though it a common knowledge that paper is based on wood which is natural and renewable material, paper often gets a bad rap. This often leads companies to include a logo or message reminding people to recycle their paper products. By focusing on sourcing and responsible manufacturing practices, recycling should not be a big concern as paper products is one of the most recycled products in the world.
